Visual Data
Surveillance
Campus Surveillance
Visual Data has provided over 200 IP cameras to a large North Carolina university. In addition to installing these security cameras, we also provided the video management software (VMS). The VMS allows for instantaneous access to the live camera views and their recordings from any computer with appropriate credentials as well as the local police department. An addition that we are currently working on is an interactive map of campus that displays all camera locations and their statuses. It will also allow users to view live feeds from those cameras.

Remote Crane
Remote Crane Viewing System
Visual Data was approached last year to help a local factory with their fork lifts. These robotic fork lifts stack product in rows and they had trouble knocking over tall stacks. Visual Data proposed a solution involving a system of cameras, wireless antennae, and tablet PCs. Three cameras were positioned on the prongs and back wall of each fork lift. These cameras would feed video to the antenna mounted on the cab of the lift. The antenna then broadcasts a signal to another antenna connected to the video storageserver. This video could be viewed from a large monitor in the control room or through the tablet PCs mounted in the cab of each for lift. In this way, the remote operator could see if the product was lined up correctly saving the company time and money.

Telescopic Inspection Camera
Earlier in the year, we were contacted by a company that needed help inspecting snubbers 16-20’ in the air. The snubbers act as a kind of shock absorber and can wear over time. They needed a way to inspect the status of the snubbers to determine if they need to be replaced before they break and cause expensive damage. We adapted a solution with a small PTZ camera atop an extending pole with camera control pad and small monitor in the handle. When collapsed, the pole is just 5’ long and easily transported. Fully extended, the pole stretches over 16’ and the camera can zoom in even farther (10x optical, 4x digital). We also provided a cart with additional monitor for viewing and a mount for the pole to make it even easier to transport while fully extended. Other accessories included a harness for easy carrying and a stand that can be placed on the ground.

Nuclear Reactor Outage
Every year Visual Data works with Duke Energy to help complete nuclear outages. An “outage” in this case does not mean a power outage but a period of time in which a nuclear power plant is shut down for maintenance such as repairs, re-fueling, and replacements. These outages range from one to two months in length and staff work in 12 hour shifts. Visual Data technicians provide numerous cameras and 24/7 support to help Duke Energy employees complete this maintenance. Our cameras allow managers to keep an eye on the situation through the entire process. Cameras can also be lowered into the fuel pools to review refueling or can help with inspecting turbines. We offer formal training to Duke employees who frequently work with our systems to ensure that they are well acquainted with all of the equipment.

Hospital Operations
Hospital Operations
Visual Data designed a video solution for a Northern Virginia hospital to help its pharmaceutical techs. This system allows the pharmacist to remotely oversee and review the mixing of prescriptions and preparation of intravenous solutions for patients. It provides for patient safety and reduction of hospital pharmacy operational costs. The system also allows for two-way communication between the technicians and the remote staff should directions need to be relayed on the fly.
